Trevor and Emily had a fall-themed October wedding at Hidden Pines Barn in Calumet MI. They planned a day full of thoughtful touches and infused with personality.
It’s hard to believe it’s been a whole year since Emily and Trevor’s engagement session! We’ve been looking forward to seeing them again and celebrating with their family for months and months – and finally the day was here!
Getting Ready & Details

Emily and her bridesmaids got ready at Emily’s home north of Calumet, Michigan. Emily shared that her dress was almost exactly what she has dreamed of wearing ever since she was a little girl – a long-sleeved lace and silk gown with a corset back, high neck, and long train.

All the bridesmaids received faux fur stoles to help ward off the October chill. I loved being able to use one as a background for Emily’s detail images; the texture added a fun personal touch!

When looking at a location for getting ready images, the number one thing I look for is natural light. Emily’s dining room has big windows that were perfect for showcasing her stunning gown!

Hidden Pines Barn Calumet MI Wedding Ceremony
The Hidden Pines Barn in Calumet MI sits on part of a 10-acre property near the Siskiwit Reception Hall. This was our first wedding at Hidden Pines Barn and we hope to be here lots more in the future! The property was intentionally developed for weddings, instead of renovating an older structure. The barn is just off Pine Street in Calumet. Tucked into the trees, it’s easy to forget we’re right in town instead of far out in the country!

The first two weeks of October are always optimal for color in Calumet, and this year was no exception. The bright autumn leaves perfectly matched Trevor and Emily’s wedding colors of red and orange.

Hidden Pines offers two options for wedding ceremonies – indoor and outdoor – so in the event of inclement weather, couples don’t have to scramble to come up with a backup plan. Their outdoor ceremony space is ideal from a photographer’s standpoint! Low benches line the aisle, with lots of room on the sides for us to move around during the ceremony without distraction. The icing on the cake is the barn doors that swing open to reveal the bride as the ceremony begins!

Trevor and Emily opted not to see each other ahead of their wedding. I always love seeing the groom’s face when he sees his bride for the first time. Trevor went from nervous to a huge grin as soon as Emily walked through the doors.

Both Emily’s father and stepfather have played big parts in her life, so she asked them to both walk her down the aisle.

Their friend Joe officiated for Trevor and Emily. The couple couldn’t take their eyes off each other during the ceremony, and it’s not an exaggeration to say joy was radiating off of them.

After exchanging rings, Emily and Trevor performed a sand ceremony including their son Zaiden. We love personal touches like this, especially when they find ways to include family! Together the three filled their shadow box with purple, orange, and yellow sand.

Reception in the Hidden Pines Barn in Calumet MI
I really loved Emily and Trevor’s wedding reception! Hidden Pines Barn is the perfect Calumet MI wedding venue with bright white walls perfect for reflecting lots of light, and the twinkle lights looped through the rafters added such a cozy feel. In the summer the large garage doors on the end open for ventilation, but in October we were glad to be able to leave them closed!

Emily and Trevor’s wedding collection included a 16×24 canvas from their engagement session to display at their reception. We love helping couples show off their pictures to their guests!

Having a son of her own, Emily knew just what would keep kids entertained at their reception. They included a table of goody buckets with activity books, snacks, crayons, and juice boxes!

Trevor and Emily’s first dance was to “Leather and Lace” by Stevie Nicks & Don Henley.

Next, Emily had two father-daughter dances – one to honor each dad. Every family dynamic is a little different, but we love seeing families who get along so well!

Trevor shared an emotional dance with his mom Candy to “Thank You Mom” by Good Charlotte.

Zaiden couldn’t wait to get on the dance floor with his mom! He was such a little cuddlebug.

Evening Portraits
Originally we had planned for some “golden hour” portraits before sunset, but it was an overcast afternoon and we realized there wasn’t going to be much of a sunset. While we made sure to get some bride and groom portraits earlier in the day, I suggested changing our schedule around a little so we could get some really fun nighttime portraits after sunset! I love when we have time to do something out of the ordinary like portraits after dark. In the summer the Upper Peninsula has late sunsets (9:30-10 p.m.), so we end up leaving before dark for most of our weddings.

IN CLOSING –
Trevor and Emily, congratulations! We have loved getting to know you both over the last year, and were SO happy to be a part of your Calumet MI wedding at Hidden Pines Barn. Wishing you a lifetime of love and laughter together!
