Hunter’s Point Senior Portraits in Copper Harbor
How do you make your senior portraits really special? Plan a session at one of your favorite places, of course! For Kate, that meant having her Class of 2023 senior portraits in Copper Harbor, MI.
Kate shares, “My family and I have been vacationing in the UP since I was little. We came to Copper Harbor for the first time four years ago and I fell in love. Lake Superior is my favorite lake, and there is no place better to hike and take in the world around you. I spend most of the year focused on school, so Copper Harbor is the perfect place to (literally) disconnect from it all. It is my absolute favorite place in Michigan — my happy place.”
She’s not kidding when she says she’s focused on school. In addition to being just the most all-around kind and bubbly person, Kate is incredibly smart. She actually started a programming/cybersecurity club at her school when she saw the need. Kate also loves competing in mock trial competitions. When she told me this I blurted out, “Like Rory and Paris on Gilmore Girls?!” Whoops – I got overexcited – that was actually a debate, not a mock trial. Mock trial is even cooler if that’s possible – the teams don’t know which side they’re assigned ahead of time, so it really puts their skills to the test under pressure.
Along with academic activities, Kate loves to be active outdoors. She’s spent the summer swimming at the pool, rollerskating, and anything else she can do to make the most of this last season before senior year starts officially.

Copper Harbor Senior Session at Hunter’s Point Park
Kate and her mom got up before sunrise to drive to Copper Harbor, Michigan for early morning pictures by Lake Superior. When planning portraits in the Copper Harbor area, I always recommend a weekday morning if possible. Copper Harbor is a popular destination in the summer and fall, so we try to get portraits done early while vacationers are still having their morning coffee.
We selected Hunter’s Point Park as the location for Kate’s senior portraits. This 9.4 acre park boasts 4,800 feet of shoreline, and we love that you can’t see it from the road. (Just another reason it’s important to get off of the main roads in the Keweenaw!) We love to come early morning so we have the park to ourselves, but even when there are other people around the long shoreline makes it easy to distance ourselves for uncluttered backgrounds in our portraits. We were happy to find we were the only ones at the park this morning!

Upper Peninsula Senior Pictures in Copper Harbor Michigan
I always recommend seniors pack at least two outfits for their session – one more casual and one more dressy. Kate made an absolute stunning selection with the Katya dress from Baltic Born. Not only did her dress have great movement, the fabric doesn’t wrinkle easily which was perfect for traveling from downstate.

It was so fun to see the way Kate’s confidence really kicked into overdrive once she put this dress on! She strutted her stuff on the boardwalk, then we headed back out to the water for some more dramatic shots.

What’s Next for kate after graduation?
“The summer after graduation I am going to spend a few weeks in Europe, visiting several places I’ve dreamed about seeing since I was little. After that, it’s off to college for a degree in computer science!”

In summary –
Kate – thank you so much for choosing Enjoy the VU Photography for this epic destination senior session. We had such a fun day getting to know your family. I can’t wait to see where you go next!
I’m one of Kate’s Great Aunts (a fantastic one, actually 😂), and had to tell you how much I enjoyed seeing these Senior pictures of Kate and reading your narrative! You are talented in both photography and the written word. Much luck to you in your business!
