Noah planned the perfect surprise waterfall proposal at Hungarian Falls. We say it every time, but proposals are our favorite thing to photograph. The planning, the extra layer of excitement, and the adrenaline rush when you see the nod yes – it’s simply the best!
Noah reached out to us a couple of months ahead of time for help planning his proposal. He wanted to propose to his girlfriend Allie during their trip to the Upper Peninsula. She loves waterfalls and exploring new ones is always a highlight on their trips, so he wanted to be sure to incorporate a waterfall into his proposal.
After some discussion and sharing options with Noah, we landed on Hungarian Falls in Hubbell, Michigan. It’s not an overly strenuous hike and was relatively close to their AirBnB. Since they would be visiting on the weekend, we planned for a mid-morning proposal before the location got busy with other hikers. This also allowed for optimal lighting for photography. Everything came together as planned and Noah’s proposal was utterly perfect! 😍
Hungarian Falls Waterfall Proposal
As Rob and I got into position near the falls, we saw a few early morning explorers out, but they all cleared out by the time Noah and Allie arrived. We watched them climb down the embankment and take in the waterfall. It was already warm and humid, and Allie suggested to Noah they take off their shoes and test the water.

Hungarian Falls is the perfect place for a waterfall proposal. We love seeing people get their first look at this majestic waterfall!

After a few minutes, Noah led Allie over to the side and gave her a big hug. They shared a tender moment and then he dropped to one knee!

Keweenaw Peninsula Engagement Pictures by the Falls
With every proposal we give as much time as needed for the couple to have their moment together. When the time is right we introduce ourselves and let them know their partner arranged for the proposal to be captured, including a short 20 minute engagement session.
We love offering an engagement session along with the proposal and guarantee at least two same-day images to share on social media. This gives couples the chance to get some great portraits (and pictures of her ring) without fumbling around with their phone while their hands shake from adrenaline – both his and hers. 😉
Allie and Noah were perfect naturals in front of the camera and I love the images we captured in our short time together. 😍 Post proposal sessions are SO fun because we’re all riding the rush of adrenaline (yes, even me) – and that joy really comes through in the images!

Noah & Allie – congratulations!!! Every trip is memorable, but we know this one will always stand out for you. Rob and I were so happy to be a part of this special moment with you. We wish you all the best as you take this next step together!
In Their Own Words:

“We’re so grateful to Veronica and Rob for beautifully capturing our engagement! When planning our trip to the UP/surprise engagement, my fiancé reached out to Veronica to ask her to be there to take pictures of the moment. Us not being familiar with the area, she recommended a meaningful proposal location for him and was super flexible as plans changed a couple times throughout the weekend. Enjoy the VU took beautifully classic photos that we will cherish for the rest of our lives!”
