Oh. My. Goodness! How did it stay nice until the end of October for Brittany + Aaron’s engagement session at Keweenaw Bay, Michigan?! It’s like mother nature herself knew this incredible couple was hoping for good weather and fall colors, and waited to blow her first icy breaths until the next afternoon. (Yes – it literally snowed the next day.)
October Engagement Session at Keweenaw Bay
Rob and I are constantly blown away by the incredible couples we meet, and these two are no exception. Funny, warm, animal lovers, and incredibly smart on top of everything else! Aaron and Brittany are planning a Keweenaw wedding next September and it was so nice to finally meet them (and their dogs) in person.
Aaron and Brittany have such a good story. They met through online dating. Fun fact: Brittany originally tried to back out of their first date, which was planned for a brewery. Aaron changed the location to a coffee shop and she agreed – and she’s so glad she did! It was so clear to everyone from the start that they were meant to be, including Brittany’s parents. Well – more on that later.
Brittany and Aaron live in Wisconsin, and after some coordination of schedules they opted to drive up the last weekend in October to visit family and have their engagement session. I was sure to warn them ahead of time that we may not have much color left, but they were game for whatever lay in store. What a pleasant surprise when we still had LOTS of leaves still on the trees when their weekend arrived! We originally planned to have their photos on Sunday afternoon, but as the week drew to an end we ended up changing to Saturday for optimal weather. We were all so glad we did when the first snowflakes of 2021 fell early the next afternoon!

Keweenaw Bay Michigan Engagement Pictures
The Keweenaw Bay beach near Ojibwa Campground is a favorite location for Brittany and Aaron. It was Rob’s and my first time at this beach (literally did not know this particular stretch existed), and I’m so glad they suggested it! We love finding new favorite locations like this one. A wide, long stretch of beach, clear skies, and even a lighthouse – it was a gorgeous day for some engagement pictures!
Aaron and Brittany warned us that they “might be awkward.” If this is what awkward looks like for portraits – I’ll take all the awkward couples I can get! 😉 We assured them all they needed to do was to be themselves. Rob and I work with a blend of prompts and poses to create natural, timeless images. Safe to say, they killed it!

Brittany and Aaron brought their two dogs, Millie (left) and Zeus (right) for their engagement session. They were both so well-behaved!

Engagement Session on Lake Superior Bay
We love hearing the story behind each engagement ring, and I think this is my favorite yet! Brittany and Aaron had only been dating for two months when they made a trip up north to see her parents. Before they left her mom slipped Aaron a small bag with a family heirloom inside – the diamond Brittany’s grandmother brought with her when she immigrated to America. After two months!! If that doesn’t speak to how perfect Aaron and Brittany are together, I don’t know what does.
Aaron proposed to Brittany during their August trip hiking in Colorado. Brittany loves sets of three, so he selected a setting that incorporated this along with her heirloom stone. Epic location and attention to detail – well done, Aaron!

I can’t wrap up this post without mentioning how amazing of a baker Brittany’s mom is! They gifted us a block of the most delicious chocolate + toffee fudge, and she’s doing their dessert table for their wedding. I wish I had such talent!!

Ohhhh these are gorgeous, there is something so special about including the fur babies! ❤❤
