I started off my season of summer senior pictures with the perfect evening in Hancock MI! The weather was perfect and warm with all of the glowy evening light I could hope for.
When Leah’s mom called to schedule her summer senior pictures, she said they really loved Mikayla’s blog post and wanted a similar feel for her portraits. I love when families already have an idea of what they want because it makes it a lot quicker to narrow down when and where to have their session. No two sessions are ever exactly cookie cutter, but it’s nice to have a place to start!
In addition, Leah was the FIRST to use one of my skirts from my client wardrobe – this dreamy emerald green tulle skirt. She wasn’t sure if it would fit, but it ended up being a perfect fit. I’m not sure who was more excited – Leah, her mom, or me!
Leah included her euphonium (which is like a small tuba, but sounds more like a French horn) and her soccer uniform in her Hancock MI summer senior pictures. I love when seniors personalize their portraits with things that made their high school time special. We even coerced her to play a bit on her instrument, which was so neat to hear!

Hancock MI Summer Senior Pictures – July
Sometimes seniors opt for multiple locations for their senior pictures. In Leah’s case, we had her entire senior session in one location on Quincy Hill. This is one of my favorite locations to shoot at because we get a wide variety of images and looks to portraits without spending any extra time in the car!

Leah has the most stunning blue eyes! While she wasn’t so sure about my crazy antics when we first started her Hancock MI summer senior pictures, eventually she accepted my zaniness and we had a lot of laughs. 😉

This skirt was everything I hoped it would be and was SO fun to photograph! (similar here; affiliate link) I’ll be adding more skirts and dresses like this for clients to borrow in the months to come! If you have a skirt in mind, let’s talk and I’ll order it in your preferred color and size.

We were just wrapping up for the night and heading back to the cars to pack up when we passed this patch of Queen Anne’s lace and I SQUEALED. There was so much gorgeous soft, glowy light!! Fortunately by this time Leah had become accustomed to my noises and was game to take just a FEW more portraits. These were definitely my favorites of the whole evening!

Funny story – as we wrapped up and packed the car I told Leah, “You did amazing. On the way home you and your mom should get ice cream!” That’s my favorite treat after an evening session. As we pulled out onto the road, we both ended up driving to Culver’s! Rob said, “They’re going to think we’re following them.” I told him, “No, I already told her that’s where we were going!” You know what they say about great minds 😉
In summary –
Leah – thank you so much for choosing Enjoy the VU Photography for your high school memories! I had such a fun evening getting to know you and learning about all of your interests. Whatever your future plans hold, I am sure you will succeed!
