Our afternoon with Mike & Gabby for their downtown Marquette engagement session was absolutely picture-perfect!
Oh my goodness – this downtown Marquette, Michigan engagement session was everything I hoped for and more. For a May that began with a winter storm warning and over two feet of snow – just a few weeks later to have everything melted plus FLOWERS felt like paradise.
Mike and Gabrielle are planning a destination wedding in Marquette this summer. They drove up for the weekend to finalize most of their wedding details and we were able to arrange to meet them while they were in town. We really love being able to meet our couples ahead of their wedding day for their engagement session, and it was so nice to finally meet in person!
Engagement Pictures at Contrast Coffee
When we were planning for their session, Gabby mentioned that she and Mike love coffee and wanted to incorporate that into their pictures. If you’ve been around here for any length of time, you know my feelings on coffee, too! 😂
We opted to stop at Contrast Coffee in downtown Marquette because the corner coffee shop is all windows, so it has great light! Being early afternoon, we had the place to ourselves as we enjoyed our coffee and visited.

Mike and Gabrielle shared how they met (workplace proximity associates turned friends turned more) and laughed describing their first date. Was it a date? Was it just a friend hangout? Ah, the early days of dating and figuring each other out. 🙂
Starting at Contrast Coffee set the mood for the rest of the session, giving us time to talk and work through those early-session jitters everyone has. Then it was time to explore Marquette!

May Engagement Session in Downtown Marquette
After coffee, we headed a little down the street to the Marquette County Courthouse. We’d passed it earlier and realized it was quiet, being a Sunday. The old sandstone structure is perfectly “UP” and lots of trees were in bloom! 😍 Mike and Gabrielle love old buildings, so it felt like a fitting location.

I’ve always loved the Marquette courthouse with its elegant portico and massive columns, and it was so fun to have the place all to ourselves!

Mike and Gabby complement each other perfectly, and it’s clear they were meant to be. When they look at each other, their faces just light up. There’s a certain level of comfort you hit when you’re with “your person,” and you can just be yourself. They’re not afraid to be themselves and be a little silly, and our afternoon together was filled with laughter!

Downtown Marquette Spring Engagement Photos
Mike and Gabrielle selected the perfect outfits for their engagement session. We love when couples dress up and treat it like a special event – because it is! Their light tones complemented each other perfectly and matched the bright spring day. We always recommend leaning towards softer, lighter-toned clothing because it helps to bring more light to your face, making your skin even more glowy.

Mike & Gabby, thank you for meeting up with us for your downtown Marquette engagement session! Rob and I loved getting to know you both better. We can’t wait to see you again next month for your wedding!
