As Mikayla and her mom drove around their Wisconsin hometown talking about where to have her senior pictures taken, she realized what she truly wanted.
Mikayla wanted to have her senior pictures taken at her “happy place” – their family home in Chassell MI.
The beautiful little farmhouse in Chassell MI has been in Mikayla’s family for generations. It’s a place the entire family looks forward to visiting each year. Mikayla treasures her memories of playing outside for hours, exploring the old apple orchard and walking through the vast, grassy fields. (And don’t forget – nightly trips to the sauna!)
Summer Senior Picture Session in Chassell MI
The morning of Mikayla’s senior session arrived with threatening dark clouds and an ominous radar. We weren’t overly concerned since we were planning to meet in early evening. Around noon the heavens opened with a giant thunderstorm that lasted until around 4 p.m. (About 3 p.m. was when I started to worry!) Although Mikayla’s family was flexible in case we needed to reschedule for the next morning, after communicating back and forth we decided to wait and see how the evening progressed. Fortunately, just as Accuweather predicted, the rain was over by 5:30. With clear, sunny skies we were excited to move forward and make some portraits!
Mikayla is an accomplished piano player and after a little begging I got her to play a few songs for me. I took piano lessons when I was young but never had the patience to progress once I had to play with two hands at the same time. Listening to Mikayla play sure made me wish I had, though!
These Chassell farm fields in full summer bloom had me literally squealing with excitement!
I also absolutely loved what Mikayla wore for her senior pictures. Her simple and classic maxi dress was completely true to her style. It also provided a beautiful silhouette for the wind to catch and flutter. She was a real trooper, hiking her skirt up to climb right into the middle of the field for some of my favorite pictures of the summer!
Golden Hour in Chassell MI
Can we pause for a minute to pick up our jaws from the floor?! The light just got better and better as the evening went on. She probably thought I was a crazy person as I ran back and forth to capture every gorgeous angle.
Mikayla and family, thank you so much for choosing Enjoy the VU Photography for your senior pictures! I know your parents will treasure these pictures as you move out to California to pursue your degree in design. I look forward to seeing you in the years to come when you come back to visit your family in Chassell MI!
