5 Places You Must Visit in Ontonagon, Michigan!

The Upper Peninsula has so much to offer in the way of sightseeing that it feels overwhelming when you are trying to plan a trip.

Never fear! Destiny, one of our 2020 senior models, is guest posting today with her top five places to visit near Ontonagon, Michigan!

Lake of the Clouds in the Porcupine Mountains is a beautiful hike in our backyard. There is a large lake right in the middle that is wonderful to see in the summer, but even prettier in the fall!

There are a number of great waterfalls in the area, so no matter which ones you choose, the hike will be worth it! Here are a few of my favorites!

Bonanza Falls is located in White Pine, MI. From Silver City, take M-64 south; follow the highway signage to Bonanza Falls via a short gravel road on the west side of the highway. Bonanza Falls (also called Greenwood Falls) is part of the Big Iron River, and has a series of natural pools as the rocks drop down which are great for exploring, especially when it’s hot!

Bond Falls is located in Paulding, MI, one of the best waterfalls in the Upper Peninsula! Because of this it is pretty busy no matter what time you go. There is roadside parking and six different places to view the falls, making it accessible for everyone.

Agate Falls is just around the corner from Bond Falls in Agate, MI, 6.5 miles east of Bruce Crossing on MI-28. There is a roadside park (Joseph F. Oravec Roadside Park) just past the bridge over the Ontonagon River. While this one is also pretty easy to get to, the best views are not easily accessible by trail. Be ready to get down on the riverbank!

Finally, no trip to the Upper Peninsula would be complete without a trip out to Lake Superior, the largest freshwater lake! We have miles of sandy as well as rocky beaches and scenic lookouts. Because Ontonagon faces Lake Superior to the west, we also have beautiful sunsets nearly every night!

I hope you found this helpful! Be sure to leave a comment with your favorite place around Ontonagon.
